Karoo Chanti

Tell us about you and what you do.

Yo I’m Chanti, I’m a poet, community activist and general space wonderer. I like reading Rumi, scheming ways of eco-domination and jamming with beautiful souls.

What 5 words sum up the experience of being human in the modern world?

Beauty, Burden, Questioning, Following, Consciousness

In a dream world, how would humans evolve?

To love, nurture each other. To mimic the symbiotic nature of the natural world. To learn that sharing is a more important part of human survival than competing.

In a nightmare world, how would humans evolve?

Continual environmental degradation. Entrenching of ego, difference and separation expressed through the narratives of us vs them and continual warfare, poverty and misery.

Tell us about any creative endeavours you’re working on right now.

I’m currently working on my first EP, which touches on some of the themes of dystopia, sexuality, reincarnation and the dualism of existence… I’ve also started a social enterprise that seeks to make art more accessible for young people and marginalised communities brap brap

Bethany Rose

Tell us about you and what you do.

My name is Bethany Rose: I work as a performance poet and I also teach Drama at an alternative provision school. I write about education, mental health, the body as geography, physics and sexuality. I love working with young people and what I do- they inspire me to write, and they make me laugh and see the world differently. They always ask me mind bending questions like ‘what is the opposite of milk?’ and ‘are our reflections really us looking back at us, and are we really the mirror?’ and ‘if you could lick a star- would it taste sour or fizzy?’. Society has labeled teenagers who are no longer in mainstream school as trouble: but really they need to look closer. The children I work with are pure light: succeeding despite their personal circumstances, facing the world with courage and humour. They are the most incredible humans.

What 5 words sum up the experience of being human in the modern world?

Complex, dark, magical, overwhelming, somnolent.

In a dream world, how would humans evolve?

With more kindness. Kindness is the most underrated of human qualities even though it is without a shadow of a doubt, the most important. I see it in abundance, every day in my work place and in my home. The abolition of capitalism would be good too: in place we should be looking at building communities and looking after each other with more tenderness. Sometimes the skyline of London expands so quickly that the horizon changes regularly into something unrecognisable. It would be better to work on what we already have, to solidify our foundations, than to build on earth that is cracked.

In a nightmare world, how would humans evolve?

Turning our screens into something so close to reality, that living life through them would become preferable to facing our own truth. The more able to we are to craft alternate identities for ourselves, the bigger our egos become, and then the bigger gap there is between the person we have curated, and the person we actually are. The larger the gap, often the more unhappier we become. Sometimes I feel like we are all already living in the nightmare world. We have to make a conscious effort to address that the human species is collapsing in on itself. We isolate ourselves and chase our ego at the expense of the vulnerable. It is far more important to help others, than it is to get that next promotion, gig, award, or bigger house. Sometimes we are told that life is insignificant, and that we are made of stardust and atoms, and other times we are told to clean out our attics and do the washing up- and the discrepancy between how we are supposed to manage the infinite and the minuscule can be overwhelming. It is no wonder that we hide behind screens to escape.

I am currently performing various gigs, having recently performed both on Hoxton Radio and also at Congress, and I am soon to feature at Passing Clouds. I am going to be published in a spoken word anthology by Frogs and Jays press later in the year. This summer I will be teaching English and running creative writing workshops around mental health in Northern India, next to Tibet.

What 5 words sum up the experience of being human in the modern world?
LISA LUXX FOR PRIME MINISTER!!!

In a dream world, how would humans evolve?
In the long run, I think space is the place, I don’t believe the DNA
process having worked its strategic magic on this planet for three and a half billion years is going to be content to spend the next few more billion years twiddling its many thumbs, waiting for the Earth and sun to die… Humanity is clearly Life’s way of looking up and doing what Life does best, the Impossible: we’ve sent metal stuff beyond the solar-system, that’s quite cool. What next? NASA’s Gerard K. O’Neill designed “High-Orbital Mini-Earths” i.e. space-colonies, and machines with which to mine the asteroids, why not? – if humanity doesn’t go after new physical frontiers the only alternative is the same old territorial soap-operas down here, ever diminishing… In a dream world, humans will climb messily up out into a dream universe.

That’s a long-term, pro-technology, infinite-growth model of future evolution, and paradoxically I think it can only be achieved by a
sharp shift to anti-technology, anti-consumption, limits-to-growth attitudes right now: humanity is basically destroying itself on many
levels, humanity needs to chill the fuck out, plant trees, recognise that the new world war is the ecological war and it’s us against
ourselves, recognise that our global ideal of economic growth is a cancer, we need to rediscover psychedelics properly this time, stop
consuming shit, stop producing shit, get in touch with that inner Life voice and find out why we were designed to be such compulsive
producers and consumers, work out what Life could be producing and consuming instead.

In a nightmare world, how would humans evolve?
You bitches aren’t paying me enough to get an answer to that.

Most of my creativity at the moment is channelled into writing endless
letters to the local paper, trying to get my name out there so people
think it’d be the smartest idea to vote for me and my fellow Green Partiers come May. Also sometime soon me and the Fire Brigade will be
putting out a poetry anthology entitled “SPIES 4 LIFE,” featuring some of our favourite minds, look for it secretly stashed on the shelves of
a bookstore near you!

My facebook page is under my name, my blog is

Moses Longpiece

Tell us about you and what you do.

I’m the fool with the folly, that is yet to be wise. I make the type of music a troglodyte hermit would make if he had a 4track.

What 5 words sum up the experience of being human in the modern world?

Agitative, panopticonic, bewildering, serpentine, carcinogenic

In a dream world, how would humans evolve?

They’d see that progress needn’t be spearheaded by the sociopathic gene, That, or a cock with a tongue.

In a nightmare world, how would humans evolve?

Humans become Gods and make new life based on their own warped terms and conditions.

I’m carving a screaming face out of wood – “Time is the echo of an axe / Within a wood.” Larkin knew the score.
